There isn't one standard price for a wedding DJ in Ontario.

The cost can depend on the experience of the DJ, how long they're needed, whether ceremony audio is required, MC responsibilities, equipment, travel, lighting and how much planning is involved before the wedding.

A DJ arriving after dinner to play music for a few hours is providing a very different service from someone responsible for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, announcements, speeches, formal dances and reception.

That's why two wedding DJ quotes can be hundreds — or even thousands — of dollars apart while both are technically quotes for a "wedding DJ."

When comparing prices, start by looking at what's actually included.

We prefer to keep things simple.

Full Wedding Experience — $2,395 + HST

NightStyle's Full Wedding Experience includes coverage from the ceremony through the reception until 1 a.m.

That includes:

• Ceremony audio and music

• Wireless microphones

• Cocktail-hour music

• Dinner music

• Professional DJ service

• MC services

• Reception and dance-floor music

• Dance-floor lighting

• Pre-wedding planning and coordination

We also accept one wedding per day, so our attention stays with your wedding from the moment we arrive until the night is over.

For most weddings, $2,395 + HST is the complete DJ price.

A mileage charge may apply depending on the location of your venue. Additional hours or unusual event requirements may also affect the final quote, but everything will be clearly outlined before you book.

Why Do Wedding DJ Prices Vary?

It's easy to compare wedding DJs by the number of hours they'll physically be at the venue.

But that's only part of the job.

Before the wedding, there are timelines to review, names and introductions to confirm, music to discuss and ceremony details to work through.

Then there's the wedding itself.

Things change.

Dinner runs late. The photographer needs another ten minutes. Someone giving a speech goes longer than expected. The couple disappears outside for sunset photos just as something else was supposed to happen.

None of this is particularly unusual.

The job is to adjust without making the wedding feel as though it's running behind.

When it's done well, your guests probably won't notice any of it.

The evening simply feels like it's flowing naturally.

Is Ceremony Audio Included?

Yes.

Ceremony audio is included with NightStyle's Full Wedding Experience.

We'll look after the ceremony music and provide professional audio and wireless microphones so your officiant, vows and readings can actually be heard by your guests.

If one company includes ceremony coverage and another begins at the reception, the two quotes aren't really for the same service.

Having one company handle the audio and music from the ceremony onward can also make the wedding day considerably simpler.

Yes.

MC service is included with NightStyle wedding DJ service.

Our approach isn't to turn your wedding into a performance about the DJ.

We'll make the announcements that need to be made, help move the evening from one moment to the next and work with your timeline without spending unnecessary time on the microphone.

Some couples want more interaction. Others want very little.

We'll talk about that before the wedding and find the balance that feels right for you.

What About Cocktails and Dinner?

The soundtrack to a wedding doesn't begin when the dance floor opens.

Cocktail hour and dinner help establish the atmosphere for the evening. The music can be relaxed, familiar, sophisticated, fun or a mixture of all of those things depending on you and your guests.

As dinner finishes and the formalities wind down, that atmosphere gradually changes.

By the time dancing begins, it shouldn't feel as though somebody suddenly switched on "the party."

The evening should have been moving in that direction naturally.

What About the Dance Floor?

This is where experience becomes particularly important.

I've been DJing since 1985, and the technology involved in DJing has changed enormously since then.

The basic challenge hasn't.

You still have to read the room.

A wedding can have several generations of people with completely different musical tastes sharing the same dance floor.

A playlist helps us understand what you like. Requests can give us useful information. But neither can tell us exactly what's going to happen once all of your guests are together in the room.

That's where the DJ has to pay attention.

If something is working, we build on it.

If the room starts changing, we change with it.

And sometimes the best decision a DJ can make is simply to leave a great dance floor alone.

What Should You Compare When Looking at Wedding DJ Prices?

Price matters. Weddings are expensive, and every couple has a budget.

When you're comparing wedding DJ quotes, however, make sure you're comparing similar services.

Look at how much coverage you're getting. Find out whether ceremony audio and MC service are included, how late the DJ stays, whether lighting costs extra and whether there are additional charges that aren't obvious in the initial quote.

Then consider the person who will actually be there.

How do they approach music requests? How much will they be on the microphone? Will they help with the timeline? How much wedding experience do they have? What happens if equipment fails?

And perhaps most importantly:

Do you trust them with the room?

The booth gives guests another way to enjoy the evening while the dance floor is running. It's especially nice during those periods when some guests are dancing while others are catching up with friends and family.

Photos are shared digitally rather than printed, keeping the experience simple and allowing guests to take and share their images throughout the event.

What About Uplighting?

LED uplighting is available for $25 per fixture + HST.

We keep it optional because not every wedding venue needs it.

Some rooms already have beautiful architectural or ambient lighting. In other spaces, strategically placed uplighting can make a noticeable difference once the sun goes down and the reception moves into the evening.

What Does $2,395 Include?

NightStyle's Full Wedding Experience is designed to keep things simple.

For $2,395 + HST, we're looking after the music and audio from your ceremony through the end of the reception at 1 a.m., along with MC service, wireless microphones, dance-floor lighting and the planning that happens before your wedding.

Just as importantly, you're hiring someone to make decisions throughout the day.

Some of those decisions will be planned weeks in advance.

Others will be made in about five seconds.
